To make the right to education more effective, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution proclaiming January 24 as International Day of Education.

On December 3, 2018, the United Nations General Assembly with a lot of consensuses had passed a resolution proclaiming January 24 as International Day of Education. The decision came after the world education community gathering in Brussels for the Global Education Meeting where the UN General Assembly raised their voice regarding education for peace and development.

The adoption of "International Day of Education" resolution, co-authored by Nigeria and 58 other member states, demonstrated the unwavering political will to support transformative actions for inclusive, equitable and quality education for all.

The United Nations General Assembly adopted January 24 as International Day of Education to celebrate the role of education for peace and development.
This day will make the world education community more dedicated to the right to education, which is enshrined in article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The day will focus on higher education accessible to everyone across the world.
A dedicated day for education also works to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all by 2030.
Around 265 million children and adolescents around the world are not able to get an education. This special day will ring the bells to make higher education stand tall.
First International Day of Education In 2019

After proclaiming the International Day of Education, the United Nations member states recognised the importance of education and learning at all levels. People can access the learning opportunities and acquire knowledge and skills that can show the positive result to sustainable development.

On the occasion of first International Day of Education, Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO said, "Today marks the first International Day of Education, as proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly last December. This significant decision recognizes the capital role of education in 'Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.'"

Ms Marie Paule Roudil, Director of UNESCO New York Office said, "Education is not only a key goal on its own in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development but the one goal that gives people the means to realize it. Gaining the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to out sustainable development into practice and craft innovate solutions is crucial for global goals.".

Education is the only weapon to eradicate many social issues. It is a part of everyone and it's our responsibility to contribute and act together to achieve the perfect score in education.
